President Trump on Wednesday brutally attacked his own attorney general in a ferocious tweet for not taking enough actions to investigate former President Barack Obama.
“Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse. Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy?” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday morning.
He then tore apart Sessions for not giving instructions to his own attorneys at the Department of Justice to investigate Obama themselves.
“Why not use Justice Department lawyers?” he asked. “DISGRACEFUL!”
Trump has fired off at his own attorney general multiple times for not doing enough to investigate his political foes. Last week, Trump took to Twitter and told his followers to ask Sessions why Democrats weren’t being under investigation for “crimes” linked to Russian interfering in the 2016 presidential election.
Last summer, he described Sessions as “beleaguered” and “weak” since he was not taking enough actions to investigate former Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state.
Trump has also expressed his anger against Sessions for recusing himself from supervising the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. The Attorney General stepped aside after it was disclosed that he gave false information to the Senate during his confirmation hearing that he had never met with any Russian government officials during the campaign.
Twitter users were quick to respond to Trump’s derange tweet. Here are some highlights:
