White House Chief of Staff, General John Kelly, made a joke about serving under President Donald Trump on Thursday at a Homeland Security event. Kelly commented just one day after White House Communications Director Hope Hicks resigned and, many more staffers are expected to exit, according to Buzzfeed.
While Kelly didn’t mention Trump’s name, it was obvious whom she was alluding to.
Kelly first started off by saying, “I miss every single one of you every day,” referring to the department he used to run. He then rolled his eyes and started laughing along with the host of the interview.
“Truly, six months, the last thing I wanted to do was walk away from one of the great honors of my life, being the Secretary of Homeland Security, but I did something wrong, and God punished me, I guess.”
Working for Trump is a punishment? Yep, that’s what he said.
Kelly has been working for the White House, making efforts to quiet the storm, but it seemed that she hasn’t been able to do so.
Just recently, he has been severely criticized for his dealing with the Rob Porter scandal, and considering that dozens of White House staff were entitled to have access to Top Secret information, despite not having clearances to do so.
Word on the street is Trump’s National Security Advisor HR McMaster is also making preparations to depart after Trump rebuked him in mid-February. However, General Kelly is also very likely to do the same thing as him.
